 Here's a lovely vintage  brooch by Ola Gorie, of Orkney, Scotland  The island was invaded by Norsemen 1000 years ago and remained under their rule for 500 years.

Ola Gorie jewellery was founded in 1960 in Kirkwall on the island of Orkney in the North Atlantic. Influences are the Norse, Scottish Celtic, Scottish Glasgow and contemporary. The brand is now  one of Britain's leading jewellery companies, winning many prestigious awards, and Ola Gorie was herself recently awarded the MBE.
