AG Danish Art Deco silver spiral bracelet
designed for other Danish Designers
Fabulous, top quality bracelet , most likely by Børge Alexis Godtbergsen, who was registered in Copenhagen with these initials from 1940 to 1987. It is possible that this bracelet was made even earlier by A.Gold, registered in Roskilde between 1893 and 1937.
My confusion as to the date and maker stems both from the style and the execution of this beautiful piece. It is Art Deco and Functionalist in its shape and simplicity of lines, as well as historical in the use of the spirals. The small balls at the centre of each link were very popular in the 1940s and 1950s. Finally, the V-Spring catch is similar in design to the one used repeatedly in bracelets by Georg Jensen throughout the first half of the 20th century, even in the modernist designs of Henning Koppel.
