Here is a traditional 'heart' pendant known as a luckenbooth.

Luckenbooth (brooches) originated in 16th Century Edinburgh. They were given as love tokens or lucky charms for warding off witches, and sold in the locked - or 'lucken' - booths near St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile.

This example bears no maker's mark and it is not hallmarked, so may have been imported to Scotland, where it was purchased.
