Wiinblad ceramic pendant February
designed for other Danish Designers
The Danish artist craftsman Bjørn Wiinblad, went against the post-war trend of functionalism and created delightful romantic motifs for 60 years until his death a couple of years ago. He worked with the pottery Nymølle from 1946 to 1976, and one of the most popular series he produced with them was the calender plaque series, which tells a love story where the couple meet in January, marry in March and have a baby in December.
The small pendants, measuring 4.5cm (1.75"), are mini versions of the larger tiles, and much rarer. A pendant is featured on p 38 of Miller's guide to 50s and 60s ceramics, and valued at £20 - £30.
This is the February motif, called Maskerade, recalling Carnival and masqued balls and parties.
This pendant will be supplied with a new leather cord (not depicted), ready to wear.
